In Haunted Manor: Queen of Death, you play the role of Christie, and her life-changing event upon receiving a distressing letter from her twin Stella. You and your twin never got along since your childhood days, and so receiving the letter alone is somewhat of a bad omen right from the very start – and indeed it is. You have been told of your parents’ death, and are now on your journey to seam together the series of events, at the same time unveil the secrets that reside in your family manor.
You arrive onto your homestead with all the obvious signs of evil prowling its premises. Along the way, you’ll be thrown into a hefty bunch of puzzles, scour the four ends of your manor, and dig deeper into the mystery that surrounds it. From then on, your adventure would be filled with ghost apparitions, floating furniture, unsettling voices in the air trying to reach for you, and all the possible un-earthly norms to see in there.
At its core, Haunted Manor: Queen of Death plays out like a horror movie set in a click-and-play narrative. As the main protagonist of the story, you will encounter many archaic artifacts like runes to serve as keys to sealed areas of the manor, medallions, magical daggers, odd keys, all sorts of antiquities and what not – ubiquitous in the game’s puzzles.
Before becoming openly distrustful and unwilling to confide to the challenge (that might scare you), it is important to note that the game does not, by all means, get you a jump scare kind of suspense in its elements. Nonetheless, it pertains to hand us a wonderful accompanying plot to unveil as you play, and ultimately get your wits to try to seam everything together.
The hidden objects scenes are very well integrated into the story of the game to boot. For instance when you enter one unassuming area in the manor, you might just step into local legend depicting some sort of magical dagger that could penetrate any seal or barrier. Right then, you are given the opportunity to backtrack around the place and find new points of interests in several previous scenes that you’ve been through – to find the key elements to be used to make this magical dagger.
Presentation-wise, visuals are crisp and are highly impressive in this game. Every area in the game is a beautifully drawn piece of art, with the overall tone inclined excellently to give you the creeps. The quality of scenes everywhere you go is consistent as well – every single scene is just intricately detailed. You will see plenty of that - scattered all throughout the game, and you have four hours worth of play to explore such wonder.
With its intriguing plot and great visuals alone, Haunted Manor: Queen of Death is definitely a great game to be had. If you have the slightest stroke of uncertainty, you at least have a 60-minute trial period to figure this out yourself prior to actual purchase. Haunted Manor: Queen of Death Summary
