Welcome to the world of Skyward Kingdom, a land of magic and mystery. Recovering from the curse of the evil Dreadmyre you will need to restore the kingdom and surrounding village. As the steward of the queen it is your responsibility to reclaim what is rightfully yours.
As you first play the game you are instantly transported to your first scene, helping find a missing key to the castle. Here you will see how amazing these scenes are, and how to use your hints. The scenes are not timed, and you have unlimited hints, but you hints take 30 seconds to recover.
Each scene will cost some energy to use, and your energy refills over time. When you find items in a scene they will reward you with coins called Bolgins, these are the main currency in the game. There is also the chance to find materials that you need for crafting, items that can be used in sets for rewards and quest items.
You will also receive experience for completing scenes and some of the quests that appear. Your experience is important as it increases your level. Having a higher level will unlock more scenes for you to play through, and every time that you level your energy will go up and you will get special crystals.
These crystals can be used to purchase Bolgins, speed up construction times and to skip quests. The crystals also have other uses and they can be really helpful, you will get 1 each time you level, and there is a bank where you can purchase them for real money in the game.
As you progress through the game you will meet several different characters that will give you quests to complete. These vary from finding specific items in the hidden object scenes, or for building and upgrading the parts the castle and village. When you finish a quest you will be rewarded with experience, Bolgins or both. When you finish a quest often you will open up another to follow. These quests give you a huge set of bonuses and help discover the story.
By upgrading the town and castle you will also unlock more and more options for you in the game. From being able to buy energy potions to playing fun mini games completing the quests for buildings is great fun and most buildings give you something back in return.
The hidden object scenes that you play through come in 4 different modes, each unlocked at a certain level. These scenes are exquisitely drawn, and really great to play through. The items appear at the bottom of the screen and for each item you find you will get paid, the faster you find an item the more you Bolgins you will get.
In some of the scenes there are areas you zoom into, or open up to continue to look for items inside. Items shown in white on the list are inside of something in the scene. This adds a hugely fun dimension to some already beautiful scenes.
Your hints are provided by your Squabit, a friendly companion who is with you throughout the game. While there is no animation in the scenes, they are breathtaking in their detail. As the story flows you unlock more and more beautiful locations and quests to find items.
